Learning music deeply through creative collaboration.
When I look back on the peak learning experiences I had as a musician, many of them involved me hashing out arrangements with bandmates in all-night rehearsal sessions, or countless hours behind a mixing desk in the studio, experimenting and layering parts, and witnessing how the music would emerge from nothing to become this assemblage of things that's greater than the sum of the parts.
One of the most amazing things I've been able to do in my career, then, is share in this creative process with my students, collaborating with them to create original music in a variety of genres (from Acadian Folk to Iranian Metal and everything in between!).
This Soundcloud playlist features some of the tracks I've produced with current and former students of mine. Some of these tracks feature relatively beginner-to-intermediate students, often in their first role as music creators. In the case of Cy, 3/4 of the members were former students of mine who had first attended, then worked at, the music camps I run la Baie Sainte-Marie, NS. These boys have gone on to be professionals, and to my great honour they hired me to produce their first full-length release.
*Coming soon*: Eli Robichaud's debut EP (Eli is another alumni of the Rock le Bot camps, and at 16 years old already an accomplished multi-instrumentalist and singer. We recorded his album in the Summer of 2018 and hope to release it in December 2018).
